Zircon crystals from Cuzzago, Ossola Valley, Piedmont, Italy – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen with Zircon crystals from Cuzzago, Ossola Valley, Piedmont, Italy features an aesthetic single crystal. The Zircon displays a typical dark brown to reddish brown coloration and forms a well defined prismatic crystal with sharply developed faces.

The crystal is embedded in a light colored quartz rich matrix and stands out with strong contrast. The smooth to slightly lustrous crystal faces reflect light and emphasize the clear geometric structure. The overall development is very attractive and allows for a good observation of the natural crystal form.

Geology & Origin

The Ossola Valley in Piedmont is a classic Alpine locality for Zircon. The crystals form in high grade metamorphic rocks as well as in pegmatitic and hydrothermal systems. Zircon is an extremely durable mineral capable of surviving complex geological processes over long periods of time. The locality near Cuzzago is known for well developed crystals, often embedded in matrix.
