Zincroselite crystals from the Tsumeb Mine, Otavi Mountains, Namibia, Gerd Tremmel collection – capsule as unique piece

This capsule contains a crystal identified as Zincroselite from the Tsumeb Mine, Otavi Mountains, Namibia, from the Gerd Tremmel collection. The specimen shows an elongated prismatic crystal with well defined shape and rounded terminations, displaying a vitreous to slightly greasy luster. The surface appears smooth to slightly dull with subtle internal inclusions. The crystal morphology is clearly developed and presented as an individual crystal within the collector’s capsule.

Please note: The identification as Zincroselite is marked with a question mark. A definitive determination may require further analytical methods such as chemical analysis or X ray diffraction.

Geology & Origin

Zincroselite belongs to the Roselite group, a series of hydrated cobalt, zinc and calcium arsenates that form secondarily in the oxidation zone of arsenic bearing deposits. The Tsumeb Mine is world famous for its exceptional diversity of arsenates and complex secondary minerals. In the oxidized zones of this polymetallic deposit, numerous rare arsenate minerals formed under varying geochemical conditions.
