Turquoise crystals from Sart, Ardennes, Belgium –  miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniatzre specimen features Turquoise from Sart in the Ardennes region of Belgium on light colored Quartz matrix. Small bluish green Turquoise crystals and crusty aggregates are present on the white to slightly cream colored areas, standing out clearly against the matrix. The crystals are recognizable and occur together with yellowish to brownish associated minerals, creating a varied and strongly contrasting surface. Despite the small size, the specimen displays very attractive coloration and comes from a rarely offered European locality.

Geology & origin

Turquoise is a hydrous copper aluminium phosphate and one of the best known gemstone and collector minerals in the world. European localities with well developed Turquoise crystals are comparatively rare. The occurrences near Sart in the Belgian Ardennes formed in hydrothermally influenced zones within quartz rich rocks. There, small Turquoise crystals and coatings developed in fractures and cavities together with various secondary copper minerals. Specimens from Belgium are especially attractive to collectors because of their rarity.
