Tremolite crystals in Quartz crystal from Mt. Malosa, Zomba, Malawi –  small cabinet specimen as unique piece

This micromount specimen from Mt. Malosa in Malawi features an elongated Quartz crystal containing numerous embedded Tremolite crystals. The transparent to slightly smoky Quartz displays an interesting internal structure of fine needle like to prismatic Tremolite inclusions arranged in crossing and radiating patterns within the crystal. The Tremolite crystals are clearly recognizable and together with the transparency of the Quartz create a very attractive sense of depth. The combination of a well formed Quartz crystal and enclosed amphibole crystals makes this specimen especially interesting for collectors of aesthetic inclusion minerals.

Geology & origin

Mt. Malosa in the Zomba district of Malawi is one of the world famous localities for rare minerals and exceptional pegmatite formations. The alkaline pegmatites of the region contain a wide variety of silicate minerals and are especially known for aesthetic Quartz and Feldspar specimens. Tremolite belongs to the amphibole group and commonly forms needle like to fibrous crystals in metamorphic or hydrothermally influenced environments. Embedded Tremolite crystals within transparent Quartz are particularly attractive because they visibly record the growth history of the crystal.
