Tourmaline, faceted, approx. 5 × 5 mm, from Africa – unique piece
This faceted Tourmaline from Africa measures approx. 5 × 5 mm and shows an attractive pink to reddish color with lively brilliance. The precisely cut facets allow light to reflect across the surface in clear reflections, enhancing the natural transparency and depth of color. Tourmaline is one of the most versatile gemstones and is known for its wide range of colors, which are caused by varying trace elements within its crystal structure. With its compact and well balanced shape, this specimen is suitable both for jewelry design and as a collector’s piece.
Geology & origin
Tourmaline is a complex boron silicate mineral that forms in a variety of geological environments, especially in granites, pegmatites, and metamorphic rocks. Its color range extends from colorless to black as well as red, green, blue, and many intermediate tones, depending on its chemical composition. Africa is one of the important sources of Tourmaline and produces high quality material in a wide range of colors. This specimen shows the typical properties of Tourmaline in faceted form.
Application note
The stone is suitable, among other things, for jewelry making such as rings, pendants, or earrings, as well as for gemstone collections. Due to its balanced shape, it is versatile in use. Tourmaline has good hardness, but it should still be protected from strong mechanical impact. For cleaning, lukewarm water and a soft cloth are recommended.
