The offered lot consists of 16 micromount specimens containing Topaz, Pseudobrookite and associated minerals from Üdersdorf in the Eifel region of Germany. The specimens show varying shapes, colors and surface textures, with dark brownish to grey mineral areas as well as lighter matrix material depending on the individual piece. Each specimen is housed separately in a micromount box and is well suited for examination with a hand lens or microscope. One lot of 16 micromounts is supplied. Picture shows sample.

Geology & Origin

Üdersdorf is located in the volcanically influenced Eifel region, one of the most important mineralogical areas in Germany. The minerals found there are closely related to volcanic and subvolcanic processes in which mineral-rich melts and gases crystallized within cavities, fractures and contact zones. Of particular interest are rarer high-temperature minerals such as Pseudobrookite and Topaz, which form under specific chemical conditions. The Eifel is well known for its wide variety of small but mineralogically significant crystal formations and has long been regarded as a classic collecting region for micromount specimens.
