Tetrahedrite and Quartz crystals from Boltout, Cavnik, Romania – miniature size specimen as unique piece
This attractive miniature specimen from Cavnik in Romania displays lustrous Tetrahedrite crystals on a dense group of clear to slightly milky Quartz crystals. Especially striking is the larger metallic Tetrahedrite crystal with silvery gray surfaces and clearly developed crystal faces. The Quartz crystals form radiating aggregates with vitreous luster, giving the specimen a highly aesthetic appearance. The combination of the dark sulfide mineral and transparent Quartz crystals creates a beautiful contrast and makes this piece particularly interesting for collectors of classic ore deposit minerals.
Geology & Origin
The deposits of Cavnik in the Romanian Maramureș region belong to the most famous hydrothermal ore districts in Eastern Europe. The mineralization formed in volcanic related veins with complex sulfide ore assemblages. Tetrahedrite, Pyrite, Sphalerite and numerous other sulfide minerals commonly occur together with Quartz and carbonates. Cavnik has been well known for decades for aesthetic miniature and micromount specimens with exceptionally developed crystals.
