Tarbuttite Crystals on this miniature specimen occur as fine-grained to short prismatic aggregates showing pale cream to light beige coloration. The crystals densely cover the matrix, creating a highly textured, sparkling surface with numerous reflective faces. Individual crystal forms are small but clearly recognizable as Crystals rather than massive material. The overall appearance is characteristic of Tarbuttite from Broken Hill and offers strong scientific as well as collector appeal.

Geology & Origin

Tarbuttite is a rare zinc phosphate that forms as a secondary mineral in oxidized zinc ore deposits. The classic locality of Broken Hill near Kabwe, Zambia, is one of the most important occurrences worldwide. Formation took place through the weathering of primary zinc minerals under oxidizing conditions, with phosphate-rich solutions playing a key role. This locality is internationally recognized and regarded as the type and reference occurrence for Tarbuttite.
