Sphalerite crystals from Creede, CO, USA – small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This small cabinet specimen displays numerous dark brown to black brown Sphalerite crystals on light colored matrix from the famous mining district of Creede in Colorado. The densely intergrown crystals show a strong adamantine luster and create a sparkling surface with attractive depth. The crystals are well developed and form a striking contrast with the surrounding host rock.
Geology & Origin
Creede in the US state of Colorado is one of the classic silver and ore districts of North America. The hydrothermal deposits of the region produced a large variety of sulfide minerals, including high quality Sphalerite specimens. Sphalerite is the most important zinc ore mineral and commonly occurs in Creede together with Galena, Quartz and other sulfides. Specimens from this historic district are highly appreciated among collectors of American minerals worldwide.
