This unique flat contains numerous specimens of different sizes with Shattuckite, Malachite and Brochantite from the Mesopotamia Mine near Khorixas in Namibia. Particularly noticeable are the intense turquoise-blue to blue-green Shattuckite areas and green Malachite zones, which contrast strongly with the brown to reddish-brown matrix. Some specimens also show Brochantite crystals. The flat offers a varied selection ranging from larger massive specimens to smaller pieces with different degrees of copper mineralization.

Geology & Origin

The Mesopotamia Mine near Khorixas in Namibia is known for a range of secondary copper minerals formed within the oxidation zone of copper-bearing ores. Weathering and chemical alteration of primary copper minerals allowed Shattuckite, Malachite and Brochantite to form. Shattuckite is a copper silicate recognized for its intense blue to turquoise coloration, while Malachite is a copper carbonate typically displaying green tones. Brochantite is a copper sulfate and may occur as distinct green crystals. The association of these different secondary minerals reflects changing chemical conditions within the deposit and produces the varied colors and structures seen throughout the specimens.
