Seligmannite crystals from Lengenbach, Binntal, Switzerland – small cabinet specimen as unique piece

This small cabinet specimen features Seligmannite crystals from the famous Lengenbach quarry in the Binn Valley of Switzerland. The small dark metallic Seligmannite crystals are embedded within a light dolomitic matrix and create an attractive contrast against the pale gray host rock. The crystals are small but clearly visible and typical for the rare sulfosalt mineralizations from this classic alpine locality. The specimen has the authentic appearance of historic Lengenbach material with delicate collector quality mineralization.

Geology & origin

The Lengenbach quarry in the Binn Valley is one of the world’s most important localities for rare sulfosalt minerals. The deposit formed within dolomitic rocks of the Alps and is especially known for arsenic and thallium bearing mineral species. Seligmannite formed there under hydrothermal conditions in small cavities and ore zones within the dolomite matrix. The Binn Valley has enjoyed an outstanding reputation among mineral collectors and scientists for centuries because of its exceptional mineral diversity and numerous type localities.
