Sapphire crystal from Mabidi, near Beitbridge, Zimbabwe –  micromount as unique piece

Sapphire Crystal is present here as a single, well-defined crystal with a clearly recognizable hexagonal habit. The crystal faces are well developed and display a vitreous luster with fine natural growth striations and internal stress features. The color ranges from deep blue to bluish gray and varies with the angle of light. Despite its small size, the Crystal is distinctly formed rather than massive or granular, giving this micromount strong scientific and collector appeal.

Geology & Origin

The Sapphire originates from the Mabidi area near Beitbridge, Zimbabwe, a region known for metamorphic rocks containing corundum-bearing zones. Formation took place under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions within metamorphic environments such as gneisses or amphibolites. Isolated, well-developed crystals are commonly the result of secondary concentration processes, where the highly resistant corundum is released from its host rock. This locality represents a well-established African corundum paragenesis.
