Ruby, faceted, oval, approx. 5 × 4 mm, from Africa – unique piece
This faceted, oval Ruby from Africa measures approx. 5 × 4 mm and shows an intense red to slightly purplish red color with lively brilliance. The precisely cut facets allow light to reflect across the surface in clear reflections, enhancing the depth of color and natural transparency of the stone. Ruby is one of the classic gemstones and is known for its strong red color, which is caused by trace amounts of chromium within the crystal structure. Due to its oval shape, this specimen is especially suitable for elegant jewelry settings and classic designs.
Geology & origin
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum (aluminum oxide) and is one of the hardest natural gemstones with a Mohs hardness of 9. It forms under high temperature and pressure conditions in metamorphic rocks. Africa is one of the important sources of Ruby and produces material with strong color and natural variation. This specimen shows the typical properties of Ruby in faceted form.
Application note
The stone is suitable, among other things, for jewelry making such as rings, pendants, or earrings, as well as for gemstone collections. Due to its oval shape, it is especially well suited for classic settings. Due to its high hardness, Ruby is very durable, but it should still be protected from strong impacts. For cleaning, lukewarm water and a soft cloth are recommended; aggressive cleaning agents are generally not necessary.
