Pyrrhotite crystals from Trepča, Kosovo – small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This striking specimen displays dark bronze to metallic Pyrrhotite crystals on a contrasting matrix. The crystals are clearly visible and form compact aggregates with a typical metallic luster. Particularly attractive is the color contrast between the dark Pyrrhotite crystals and the lighter to orange-brown weathering products and associated minerals. Geology & Origin
Pyrrhotite is an iron-rich sulfide mineral with variable composition and is among the most common ore minerals in hydrothermal and magmatic deposits. It commonly occurs together with Galena, Sphalerite, and other sulfides. The Trepča mining district in Kosovo is one of Europe's most important lead-zinc ore regions and is internationally renowned for its diverse and high-quality mineral specimens. Pyrrhotite from Trepča is valued by collectors for its characteristic crystal forms and historic provenance.
