Purple Fluorite from Namibia – 100 g

This 100 g lot contains Purple Fluorite from Namibia in various piece sizes. The individual pieces show shades ranging from light violet to very dark purple and, in places, an almost black appearance, partly with lighter to colourless areas and distinct colour zoning. The surfaces range from vitreous and glossy to irregularly fractured and display the characteristic good cleavage of Fluorite. Picture shows sample.

Geology & Origin

Fluorite commonly forms in hydrothermal veins and cavities, where fluorine-bearing fluids precipitate the mineral. Namibia is known for numerous Fluorite occurrences showing a variety of colours and colour zoning. The purple colour is influenced by structural defects and trace elements within the crystal lattice and can vary considerably within a single piece.
