This unique flat contains numerous specimens with Pottsite and Clinobisvanite from the Linka Mine in the Spencer Hot Springs Mining District, Nevada, USA. The specimens consist mainly of grey to brownish matrix with locally conspicuous yellow mineralization as well as fine coatings and disseminated areas. With specimen sizes ranging from smaller collector pieces to noticeably larger examples, the flat forms a varied assemblage of this unusual mineral association.

Geology & Origin

The Linka Mine in the Spencer Hot Springs Mining District, Lander County, Nevada, is the type locality of the rare mineral Pottsite. Pottsite is a hydrous lead-bismuth vanadate discovered in the oxidation zone of a tungsten-bearing deposit. It is characteristically associated with Clinobisvanite, a bismuth vanadate, as well as minerals such as Scheelite, Bismutite and Vanadinite. Pottsite may occur in bright yellow material, while Clinobisvanite typically shows more subdued brownish to reddish tones. The association of these uncommon vanadate minerals makes material from the Linka Mine particularly interesting from a mineralogical perspective.
