Poldervaartite crystals from the N'Chwaning II Mine, Kalahari Manganese Field, South Africa – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen with Poldervaartite crystals from the N'Chwaning II Mine, Kalahari Manganese Field, South Africa represents an attractive collector’s piece from 2002. Several rounded, nodule like aggregates of light beige Poldervaartite crystals are prominently positioned on a dark matrix, forming an impressive three dimensional structure.

The crystals are densely intergrown and display a finely structured, partly radial surface. The spherical aggregates appear massive and create a pronounced relief effect, giving the specimen a strong visual presence. The contrast between the pale Poldervaartite crystals and the dark matrix further enhances the aesthetic appeal of this piece.

Geology & Origin

The N'Chwaning II Mine in the Kalahari Manganese Field is one of the most important localities worldwide for rare manganese minerals. The deposit formed in manganese rich sedimentary rocks that were later affected by hydrothermal processes. Poldervaartite is a relatively rare calcium manganese silicate that can occur within these complex mineral assemblages and occasionally forms well developed crystals in cavities of the deposit.
