Phillipsite crystals from Langd Quarry, Vogelsberg, Hesse, Germany – micromount as unique specimen
This micromount features a small cavity lined with numerous delicate Phillipsite crystals in pale cream to light honey-coloured shades. The densely packed crystals cover the cavity surface, creating an attractive sparkle. The dark basaltic matrix provides a striking contrast that highlights the fine crystal growth, making this a very appealing collector's specimen.
Geology & Origin
Langd Quarry in the Vogelsberg volcanic field is one of Germany's classic localities for zeolite minerals. Phillipsite crystals formed within gas cavities and vesicles of volcanic basalt, where mineral-rich fluids slowly crystallised. The Vogelsberg basalts are among the largest continuous volcanic formations in Central Europe and are well known for their diverse zeolite mineral assemblages.
