Unheated Kyanite, 1.75 ct., approx. 9 × 6 × 4 mm, from Africa – 1 piece

This unheated Kyanite from Africa weighs 1.75 ct. and measures approx. 9 × 6 × 4 mm. The stone is cut in a teardrop shape with a faceted and polished upper surface that enhances its vivid blue color and natural internal structures. Light reflects across the facets in clear, dynamic reflections, emphasizing the characteristic appearance of Kyanite. The underside is flattened and also polished, allowing for stable placement and practical use in jewelry settings. The combination of transparency, internal textures, and precise cut gives this gemstone a lively and expressive look.

Geology & origin

Kyanite is an aluminum silicate mineral that typically forms in metamorphic rocks under high pressure conditions deep within the Earth’s crust. It is most commonly known for its blue color, which can range from light to deep tones depending on composition and internal structure. Kyanite often shows natural inclusions and internal zoning, which are typical features of untreated material. With a hardness that varies depending on direction, it is a distinctive mineral both scientifically and gemologically. This specimen represents the natural characteristics of Kyanite in a polished gemstone form.

Application note

The stone is suitable, among other things, for jewelry making such as pendants, rings, or earrings, as well as for gemstone collections. Due to its flattened and polished underside, it can be easily set or positioned. Kyanite has directional hardness and should therefore be handled with care to avoid damage along cleavage planes. For cleaning, lukewarm water and a soft cloth are recommended. Picture shows sample! Item may differ in size, shape and colour from the sample images.
