Meta-Tyuyamunite crystals from the Mashamba West Mine, Congo, Gerd Tremmel collection – Scab as unique piece

This small cabinet specimen displays Meta-Tujamunite crystals from the Mashamba West Mine in the Congo, from the Gerd Tremmel collection. The intense yellow to yellow-green crystal aggregates are irregularly distributed across the rock surface, forming strong contrasts against the grey-brown matrix. The vivid coloration and dense coverage of certain areas give the specimen a striking overall appearance that is typical for secondary uranium minerals from this locality.

Geology & origin

Meta-Tujamunite is a secondary uranium mineral that forms in the oxidation zones of uranium-rich copper deposits. It develops through alteration processes of primary uranium minerals and typically occurs as fine-grained to crusty yellowish coatings and aggregates. The Mashamba West Mine is located in the Central African Copperbelt and is well known for its wide range of rare uranium and copper minerals represented in collections worldwide.
