Mesolite crystals from Pune, India, Gerd Tremmel collection – Scab as unique piece

This specimen features finely developed Mesolite crystals from the classic Indian locality of Pune, India, and originates from the Gerd Tremmel collection. The colorless to slightly whitish-transparent, slender needle-like crystals are densely intergrown into a fan-shaped aggregate radiating from a common base. The uniform crystal orientation and the high density of individual crystals give the specimen a balanced overall appearance with pronounced structural depth.

Geology & Origin

The Pune region is one of the world’s most important classical localities for zeolite minerals and is well known for its volcanic basalt sequences of the Deccan Traps. Mesolite forms there in secondary cavities and fractures within the basalts through low-temperature hydrothermal processes involving calcium- and sodium-rich solutions. Over several decades, this locality has produced numerous characteristic and aesthetically refined zeolite specimens and holds a well-established position within the international collecting community.
