Topaz crystals from Thomas Range, Utah, USA, Gerd Tremmel collection – 6 micromount as unique piece

These six micromounts show Topaz crystals from the Thomas Range, Utah, USA, from the Gerd Tremmel collection. The transparent to slightly honey colored Topaz crystals are predominantly prismatic with clearly developed terminations and sharp edges. They are situated on a light colored rhyolitic matrix with a finely crystalline, partly drusy surface that distinctly highlights the crystals. The combination of defined crystal form, vitreous luster, and warm color tones gives each specimen a balanced and structured overall appearance.

Geology & Origin

The Thomas Range in Utah is a classic locality for Topaz associated with highly evolved, fluorine rich rhyolites. Crystallization occurred in gas rich cavities during the late cooling stages of silica rich volcanic rocks, where fluorine bearing fluids promoted the development of well formed Topaz crystals. The region is internationally known for its clear, well shaped crystals, representing typical pneumatolytic to hydrothermal formation conditions in a volcanic environment.
