Planerite crystals from O'Haver Claim, Cripple Creek, Colorado, USA, Gerd Tremmel collection – small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This small cabinet specimen shows Planerite crystals from the O'Haver Claim near Cripple Creek, Colorado, USA, from the Gerd Tremmel collection. Numerous blue green Planerite crystals occur in dense, fine grained aggregates on a pink to reddish brown feldspar rich matrix. The crystals irregularly cover the surface and form vivid color accents between light quartz areas and darker inclusions. The granular texture of the host rock combined with the intensely colored crystal zones gives the specimen a clearly structured and contrasting overall appearance.
Geology & Origin
The Cripple Creek area in Colorado is known for complex hydrothermal ore formation within alkaline volcanic and intrusive rocks. Planerite formed here as a secondary copper phosphate mineral in the oxidation zone of primary ores, where phosphate rich solutions reacted with copper bearing components. The development of well visible crystal aggregates is characteristic of the weathering and redistribution processes in this historically significant mining district.
