Molybdenite crystals from Azesour, Morocco, Gerd Tremmel collection – Scab as unique piece

This small cabinet specimen features Molybdenite from Azesour, Morocco, from the Gerd Tremmel collection. The specimen consists of silvery, flaky to platy aggregates with a strong metallic luster. The surface appears highly reflective in places and shows the characteristic slightly greasy appearance typical of Molybdenite. No distinct individual crystals are developed; the mineral occurs mainly in massive to foliated form, giving the specimen a clear and authentic mineralogical character.

Geology & origin

Molybdenite is a molybdenum sulfide and the most important ore mineral for molybdenum extraction. It typically forms in hydrothermal deposits, commonly associated with granitic intrusions as well as pegmatitic or greisen-type rocks. The Azesour occurrences in Morocco are known for massive to platy Molybdenite and provide classic reference material for this mineral species.
