Apatite crystals from Sauberg, Ehrenfriedersdorf, Germany, Gerd Tremmel collection – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen with Apatite crystals originates from the Sauberg near Ehrenfriedersdorf in Germany and is part of the Gerd Tremmel collection. An open cavity within the matrix hosts a dense group of well-formed prismatic Apatite crystals, distinguished by their clear geometry and harmonious arrangement. The crystals display subtle shades ranging from soft grey to delicate violet tones, creating a strong visual contrast with the surrounding rock matrix. The sharply defined crystal faces give the specimen a lively and structurally appealing overall appearance.

Geology & Origin

The Sauberg near Ehrenfriedersdorf is a classic Erzgebirge locality with a long mining tradition. Apatite crystals formed here as a result of hydrothermal processes associated with granitic and greisen-type host rocks. The locality is well known for its diverse mineral paragenesis and regularly produces characteristic Apatite specimens that are highly appreciated by collectors of classic German localities
