Calcite crystals from the Xiang Hua Lin Mine, Hunan, China, Gerd Tremmel collection – cabinet specimen as unique piece

This cabinet specimen features Calcite crystals from the Xiang Hua Lin Mine, Hunan, China, originating from the Gerd Tremmel collection. The vivid red to salmon-colored Calcite crystals are blocky to pointed in habit and form a striking, partially intergrown crystal group with clearly visible cleavage and growth surfaces. Several crystals project prominently from the cluster, giving the specimen a strong three-dimensional presence. Color zoning from deep red to lighter, translucent areas enhances the visual appeal of this classic collector specimen.

Geology & Origin

The Xiang Hua Lin Mine in Hunan Province, China, is a well-known locality for unusually colored Calcite crystals. These formed from calcium-rich hydrothermal fluids crystallizing within fractures and cavities of the host rock. Trace elements and inclusions are responsible for the characteristic red coloration of the Calcite. Specimens from this mine are highly valued by collectors, as many classic pieces originate from earlier mining periods and comparable material is now only rarely available.
