Native Gold from Falun, Sweden– micromount as unique piece

This micromount specimen shows native Gold from Sweden in an attractive association with a light partly transparent matrix. The Gold appears as a small but intensely metallic and shiny area clearly contrasting with the more matte host material.

The matrix shows a crystalline structure with a glassy to slightly cloudy appearance. The Gold does not form clearly developed individual crystals but occurs in compact native form still standing out due to its strong metallic luster. The combination of translucent matrix and bright Gold gives the specimen a very appealing aesthetic appearance.

Geology & Origin

Native Gold typically forms in hydrothermal deposits where it precipitates from mineral rich fluids. It can occur in quartz veins as well as in various metamorphic or magmatic rocks.

The classic locality Falun in Sweden is historically significant and especially known for its copper deposits. The complex geochemical processes within this deposit also allow the formation of native Gold often associated with sulfide minerals and quartz rich rocks.
