Phurcalite crystals, UV-active from Utah, USA – 1.68 kg unique piece

This 1.68 kg specimen with Phurcalite crystals from Utah, USA, displays an impressive, intense green fluorescence under UV light. The surface is broadly covered with finely distributed crystalline coatings that glow vividly under both shortwave and longwave UV light. The crystals form a dense, sparkling structure across the matrix, creating a spectacular, almost fully illuminated appearance in the dark. Under normal light, the characteristic yellowish-green color of Phurcalite remains visible, giving the piece a distinctive mineralogical presence. An exceptional UV collector’s specimen with strong visual impact.

Geology & Origin

Phurcalite is a secondary uranium mineral that forms in the oxidation zone of uranium-bearing deposits. It develops through the reaction of uranium-rich solutions with phosphate under oxidizing conditions. Utah is well known for numerous uranium occurrences where a variety of secondary uranium minerals with pronounced fluorescence can develop. The intense UV reaction is caused by the uranyl ion, which is responsible for the characteristic green glow.
