Embedded Fredrikssonite crystals from Långban, Sweden – miniature specimen as unique piece

This thumbnail specimen shows embedded Fredrikssonite crystals in a predominantly light, whitish to cream-coloured matrix. The crystals appear dark brown to nearly black and form elongated, clearly defined sections that contrast strongly with the surrounding light-coloured rock. This unique specimen originates from Långban, Sweden.

Geology & Origin

Fredrikssonite is a rare manganese-bearing borate mineral particularly associated with metamorphosed manganese deposits. Långban in Värmland is one of Sweden's most important classic mineral localities and is renowned for its exceptional diversity of rare manganese and iron minerals. The complex composition and metamorphic history of the deposit enabled the formation of numerous unusual mineral species, including Fredrikssonite.
