Zinnwaldite crystals from the Erongo, Namibia – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen displays silvery-gray to slightly brownish mica plates of Zinnwaldite with distinct lamellar structure and metallic-silky luster. The mineral’s reflective sheen varies with the viewing angle, giving it a dynamic appearance. Its compact form and layered texture are characteristic features of mica minerals from the pegmatites of the Erongo Massif.

Geology & Origin

Zinnwaldite is a lithium- and iron-bearing mica that forms an intermediate member between Lepidolite and Annite. It occurs mainly in granitic pegmatites and hydrothermal veins. The Erongo Massif in Namibia is well known for its diverse pegmatite mineralization, where Zinnwaldite commonly appears alongside Feldspar, Quartz, and Topaz. This locality ranks among the most important sources of rare mica minerals in southern Africa.
