Embedded Aikinite crystals from Germany – small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This unique piece shows embedded Aikinite crystals on a light gray to white quartz matrix. The mineral is visible in metallic gray, lustrous areas that contrast strongly with the matrix. Presented as a small cabinet specimen, the piece offers a clear impression of the appearance of this rare sulfosalt.
The specimen comes from the Wolkenhügel Mine near Bad Lauterberg in the Harz Mountains, Germany, a classic locality for various ore minerals. Aikinite is a rare sulfosalt of bismuth, copper, and sulfur that crystallizes in the orthorhombic system. It typically occurs in massive to granular aggregates and is documented from only a few occurrences worldwide. Specimens of this size and quality are especially valued.
