3 mm Peach Moonstone cabochon from Malawi – 1 piece
This Peach Moonstone from Malawi measures approx. 3 x 3 mm and has been cut as a small half-round cabochon. The stone shows a warm peach to orange tone with a slightly translucent appearance. The smoothly polished surface gives the stone a soft luster and highlights the fine, even internal structure of the mineral. Due to its compact size, this specimen is especially suitable for delicate jewelry work such as stud earrings or fine ring settings, as well as a small collector’s gemstone.
Geology & origin
Moonstone belongs to the feldspar group and is mineralogically usually assigned to potassium feldspar or plagioclase. A characteristic feature of Moonstone is a soft shimmering light effect known as adularescence, which is caused by fine intergrowth structures within the crystal. The peach colored variety shows warm tones influenced by trace elements and internal structure. Deposits in Malawi are among the known African sources of Moonstone material, valued for its pleasant color and good workability.
Application note
The stone is suitable, among other things, for jewelry making such as rings, stud earrings or pendants, as well as for gemstone collectors. Due to its material properties Moonstone should be protected from strong impacts. For cleaning, lukewarm water and a soft cloth are recommended; aggressive cleaning agents or ultrasonic cleaning should be avoided.
