Mitridatite, Rockbridgeite and Keckite crystals from Hagendorf, Germany – small cabinet specimen as unique piece

This unusual small cabinet specimen originates from the world famous phosphate deposit of Hagendorf in Bavaria, Germany. The specimen displays a complex assemblage of Mitridatite, Rockbridgeite and Keckite in earthy yellowish brown to dark green areas on weathered matrix. The surface shows numerous finely structured crystalline aggregates and mineralized zones that document the complex formation history of these rare secondary phosphate minerals. Individual crystals are only microscopically developed or indistinct, but crystalline aggregates are present on the specimen.

Geology & Origin

Hagendorf is one of the most important phosphate localities in Europe and has produced numerous rare mineral species. Mitridatite is a hydrous calcium iron arsenate, while Rockbridgeite and Keckite belong to the iron rich phosphate minerals that form through the alteration of primary phosphates within pegmatitic rocks. The deposit is internationally renowned for its remarkable diversity of phosphate and arsenate minerals. Specimens containing several rare mineral species from this classic locality are especially valued by advanced mineral collectors.
