Quartz crystals from the Tsumeb Mine, Otavi Mountains, Namibia – miniature specimen as unique piece

This historical miniature specimen from before 1988 displays numerous small, clear to slightly milky Quartz crystals on dark matrix from the famous Tsumeb Mine in Namibia. The crystals are densely intergrown and form an attractive sparkling aggregate with vivid surface texture. Particularly remarkable is the rarity of Quartz crystals from this world renowned locality, which became famous mainly for its exceptional variety of secondary copper and lead minerals.

Geology & Origin

The Tsumeb Mine in the Otavi Mountains of Namibia is considered one of the most important classic mineral localities in the world. This complex hydrothermal deposit produced several hundred different mineral species over many decades, including numerous type localities. Quartz occurs comparatively rarely in collectible quality at Tsumeb, making older specimens with well developed crystals especially desirable today. Historical specimens collected before the closure of the mine also carry significant collector value.
