This half size flat contains a selection of Mimetesite specimens from the renowned Tsumeb Mine in Namibia, one of the most important and mineralogically diverse ore deposits worldwide. The pieces display various shades of yellow to orange and show fine- to coarse-grained, partly massive textures. Several specimens also include associated minerals such as Quartz, Chalcocite or oxidised components, illustrating the complex geological environment of the locality. The assortment provides a broad impression of the natural diversity of this rare lead arsenate while preserving the historical context of the collection.
Geology & Origin
Mimetesite is a lead arsenate that forms in the oxidation zone of lead-rich ore deposits. The Tsumeb Mine is renowned for its exceptional mineralogical complexity, with more than 200 mineral species recorded. Its unique geochemical environment enabled the formation of many rare secondary minerals, including diverse granular to massive Mimetesite aggregates. The pieces in this flat reflect these conditions and show characteristic textures and colour variations typical of the locality.
