Mimetesite xls; Chihuahua, Mexico; Gerd Tremmel collection; Min; unique piece
Mimetesite crystals from Chihuahua, Mexico, Gerd Tremmel collection – miniature specimen as unique piece
This miniature specimen features intensely yellow to orange Mimetesite crystals in dense, botryoidal growth. The crystals form rounded, tightly intergrown aggregates with a finely crystalline surface and a soft, velvety luster. Individual crystal forms are clearly recognizable and create a lively, three-dimensional texture with outstanding color intensity.
The compact surface, almost entirely covered by crystals, gives the piece remarkable visual presence. The warm, saturated coloration is typical of high-quality Mimetesite finds from Mexico and makes this miniature specimen a particularly attractive collector’s item.
Geology & Origin
Mimetesite is a secondary lead arsenate belonging to the apatite group and forms in the oxidation zone of lead deposits. In the mining districts of Chihuahua, Mexico, weathering of primary lead minerals and the action of arsenic-bearing solutions led to the formation of rich, vividly colored crystal aggregates. The botryoidal, bright yellow to orange Mimetesite crystals from this region are regarded as classic specimens from Mexican base-metal deposits.
