This unique flat contains a selection of Metamunirite and Zippeite crystals from the D-Day Mine, Utah. The specimens display bright yellow to yellow-green mineralization on light grey host rock. Depending on the specimen, fine crystalline coatings, powdery aggregates and compact crusts are present, highlighting the characteristic appearance of these secondary uranium minerals.
Geology & Origin
The D-Day Mine in Utah is one of the well-known uranium localities of the Colorado Plateau. Weathering of primary uranium ores produced a wide range of rare secondary uranium minerals, including Metamunirite and Zippeite. The locality is highly regarded by collectors for its colourful uranium mineral assemblages and its geological significance.
