Metamunirite crystals from the Burro Mine, CO, USA – small cabinet specimen as unique piece

This distinctive small cabinet specimen displays Metamunirite in its typical occurrence on light colored matrix. The surface is covered by fine crystalline coatings that give the specimen a uniform, velvety appearance. Crystals are present and recognizable, although their small size means they appear mainly as fine grained to microcrystalline aggregates. Originating from the famous Burro Mine in Colorado, a classic locality for numerous secondary uranium minerals, the specimen represents an interesting collector's piece for enthusiasts of rare uranium minerals.

Geology & Origin

Metamunirite is a rare hydrated sodium uranium vanadate that forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zones of uranium bearing deposits. The Burro Mine in Colorado is one of the important North American localities for a variety of uranium and vanadium minerals. Because of its composition, Metamunirite contains uranium and is therefore naturally radioactive. The mineral is particularly appreciated by collectors specializing in rare uranium minerals and classic mineral localities.
