Meta-Uranocircite crystals from the Davier Mine, Lawrence Co., SD, USA, Gerd Tremmel collection – Scab as unique piece

This small cabinet specimen from the Gerd Tremmel collection features Meta-Uranocircite as vivid yellow-green crystal aggregates set on a strongly contrasting brown to rusty matrix. The crystals occur in irregularly distributed patches and stand out clearly against the host rock. The striking color contrast between matrix and uranium mineral crystals gives the specimen a strong visual impact and makes it a well-documented collector’s piece from a classic U.S. locality.

Geology & Origin

Meta-Uranocircite is a secondary uranyl phosphate formed by the weathering of primary uranium minerals. The Davier Mine is well known for a wide range of secondary uranium minerals that developed in the oxidized zones of uranium-bearing deposits. Meta-uranocircite crystals from this locality clearly illustrate these complex alteration processes and are highly regarded by collectors of classic American uranium minerals.
