Native Mercury from Almadén, Spain, offered as a Micromount. The specimens show a dark to black-grey matrix with reddish to reddish-brown areas and locally metallic-looking sections. Due to the natural formation and varying distribution of the mineral components, each specimen differs in shape, texture and appearance. One randomly selected Micromount from this material is supplied.
Geology & Origin
Almadén in the Spanish province of Ciudad Real is one of the historically most important mercury deposits in the world and is especially famous for its exceptionally rich Cinnabar and Mercury mineralization. The deposit formed through hydrothermal processes in which mineral-rich fluids circulated along fractures and permeable rock zones and precipitated mercury-bearing minerals. Native Mercury may occur as small droplets or fine inclusions together with characteristic associated minerals. The long mining history and distinctive geological setting make Almadén a classic and internationally renowned locality for mercury minerals.
