Makatite crystals from Aris Quarry, Windhock, Namibia – small cabinet specimen as unique piece

This exceptional small cabinet specimen displays white to slightly cream colored Makatite crystals embedded in dark matrix. Particularly striking are the fibrous to radiating crystal aggregates that clearly stand out from the surrounding rock and give the specimen a distinctive texture. The crystals show a silky luster and are well developed for this rare mineral. The strong contrast between the bright crystal formations and the dark matrix makes this specimen especially decorative.

Geology & Origin

Makatite is a rare hydrated sodium silicate mineral typically formed in alkaline volcanic environments. The Aris Quarry near Windhoek in Namibia is known for rare silicate minerals and produced various unusual mineral associations. Well recognizable Makatite crystals from Namibia are comparatively rare and especially desirable for collectors of uncommon silicate minerals.
