Maghrebite crystals from Bou Azzer, Morocco – small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This rare small cabinet specimen from the famous cobalt and nickel mining district of Bou Azzer displays Maghrebite in characteristic reddish to purplish areas on a light brown matrix. The colored mineralized zones form vein-like patterns throughout the rock, giving the specimen a distinctive appearance typical of this rare mineral. Crystals are not clearly developed on this specimen. The mineral occurs mainly as massive to fine-grained aggregates within the matrix.
Geology & Origin
Maghrebite is an extremely rare cobalt mineral known from only a few localities worldwide. The Bou Azzer mining district in Morocco is one of the world's most important sources of cobalt, nickel, and arsenic minerals and is renowned for its exceptional mineral diversity. Hydrothermal ore-forming processes created numerous unusual primary and secondary minerals, including Maghrebite. Due to its rarity, specimens of this mineral are highly sought after by collectors specializing in African minerals and cobalt-bearing mineral species.
