Lizardite from Norway – 100 g
This 100 g selection features attractive rough material from Norway with deep shades ranging from dark green to yellow-green. Typical are fine, sometimes wavy banding and whitish magnesite inclusions that create striking contrasts and patterns. While the surface appears matte when dry, it reveals remarkable depth and color intensity when polished or wet.
Perfect for lapidary work, cutting and polishing, or simply as a raw specimen with fascinating geological character.
Geology & Origin
Lizardite belongs to the serpentine group and primarily forms through the metamorphism of ultramafic rocks, such as peridotites and dunites. In Norway, such formations originated during the Caledonian orogeny, when oceanic crust was incorporated into continental margins.
Norwegian lizardite is prized for its consistent quality, easy workability, and often decorative color zoning. The frequent combination with magnesite is a result of hydrothermal alteration processes, producing a classic rock material with both scientific and creative appeal.
