Linarite and Serpierite-Devilline crystals from the Tsumeb Mine, Otavi Mountains, Namibia –  micromount as unique piece

This micromount specimen with Linarite as well as Serpierite-Devilline crystals from the Tsumeb Mine, Otavi Mountains, Namibia, shows an attractive paragenesis of secondary copper minerals. Numerous light blue to turquoise crystals are scattered across the dark matrix, creating a vivid color contrast with the darker host rock. The crystals are clearly developed and form dense aggregates across parts of the surface.

The combination of intense coloration and the characteristic Tsumeb mineral assemblage gives this micromount a distinctive aesthetic appearance and makes it an appealing specimen for collectors of secondary copper minerals.

Geology & Origin

Linarite is a lead copper sulfate hydroxide, while Serpierite and Devilline are hydrated copper sulfates. These minerals form secondarily in the oxidation zone of polymetallic deposits through reactions of sulfide ores with oxygen rich solutions. The Tsumeb Mine is world famous for its extraordinary diversity of secondary copper and lead minerals formed under complex geochemical conditions.
