Levyn crystals from Elk Rock Island, Oregon, USA, Gerd Tremmel collection –  small cabinet specimen as unique piece

Levyne crystals from Elk Rock Island, Oregon, USA, from the Gerd Tremmel collection. The white to slightly cream-colored crystals are embedded in a dark volcanic matrix and form fine, platy aggregates that contrast clearly with the host rock. The crystals are well recognizable and concentrated in a central area of the specimen, giving the piece a balanced and visually appealing appearance. As a small cabinet specimen, this example is well suited for systematic zeolite collections as well as specialized collections focused on US localities.

Geology & Origin

Levyne is a rare zeolite mineral that typically forms in basaltic cavities within volcanic rocks. Elk Rock Island in the Willamette River is a well-known locality for various zeolites, which crystallized through slow hydrothermal processes within gas vesicles of the basalt. The locality is known for producing characteristic specimens with well-developed crystal aggregates and is highly regarded among collectors for its mineralogical diversity.
