Lapis Lazuli, (Lazurite, Lapis Lazuli); untreated, Afghanistan; 100 g
This 100 g lot consists of untreated, natural rough Lapis Lazuli pieces displaying rich blue to ultramarine-blue colors. The pieces show the characteristic varied pattern with light to whitish-grey areas as well as small golden Pyrite inclusions. Shape, size, color intensity and mineral distribution vary naturally from piece to piece. The picture shows a sample.
Geology & Origin
Lapis Lazuli is a rock whose intense blue color is mainly caused by the mineral Lazurite. Typical associated minerals include Calcite and Pyrite, which produce the characteristic light areas and golden inclusions. Afghanistan is one of the classic and most important sources of Lapis Lazuli and has been known for intensely blue material for thousands of years.
Picture shows sample! Item may differ in size, shape and colour from the sample images.
To see the colors better the stones are wetted for some pictures.
