Långbanite from Manggruvan, Sweden – cabinet specimen as unique piece
This cabinet specimen shows Langbanite in massive form on a light-colored matrix from the Manggruvan mine in Sweden. The dark grey to black mineralized areas form compact aggregates with a metallic to dull luster and stand out clearly from the surrounding rock. Individual crystals are not recognizable on this specimen, and the mineral occurs predominantly in dense massive form. The contrasting appearance and rarity of the mineral make this an attractive collector's specimen.
Geology & Origin
Langbanite is a rare manganese iron antimony oxide. The Manggruvan mine in Sweden is a classic locality for numerous rare mineral species and is especially known for its complex manganese-rich deposits. Langbanite forms under metamorphic conditions and typically occurs in massive form. Due to its rarity and the significance of the Swedish locality, the mineral is highly regarded by collectors of rare Scandinavian minerals.
