Our raw stones are partially not cleaned. Possible impurities such as dust or dirt can be easily and quickly removed with water. This has no impact on the product quality.
These Labradorite pieces from Ft. Dauphin, Madagascar display predominantly grey to dark grey base colors with the characteristic iridescent color play typical of Labradorite. Depending on the angle of the light, the natural fracture surfaces reveal intense blue, turquoise, green and occasionally golden-yellow reflections. The 100 g lot contains rough pieces of varying sizes with natural surfaces and individual structures. The picture shows a sample; shape, size and color play may vary naturally from piece to piece.
Geology & Origin
Labradorite belongs to the feldspar group and is a calcium-rich member of the plagioclase series. Its characteristic optical effect, known as labradorescence, is caused by light interference within very fine lamellar structures inside the mineral. Madagascar is well known for Labradorite showing strong labradorescence, and material from the Ft. Dauphin region can display especially vivid blue and green reflections.
