This 100 g lot contains natural Kunzite rough stones from Nigeria in a variety of sizes and shapes. The pieces predominantly display delicate pink, lilac and light violet tones, with some nearly colourless to slightly greenish areas. Characteristic features include the often elongated prismatic shapes with clearly visible longitudinal striations and the varying transparency of the individual pieces. The varied mix of smaller and larger rough stones makes this lot suitable both for collectors and for further processing.
Geology & Origin
Kunzite is the pink to violet variety of the mineral Spodumene and belongs to the pyroxene group. Its characteristic colour is mainly caused by small amounts of manganese. Kunzite forms predominantly in granitic pegmatites, where lithium-rich minerals can develop during slow crystallization. Nigeria is known for numerous pegmatite deposits containing Spodumene and various other gemstone minerals.
