Koritnigite xls; Jáchymov, Czech Republic; Scab; unique piece
Koritnigite crystals from Jáchymov, Czech Republic – small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This rare specimen from the famous mining district of Jáchymov displays Koritnigite in its characteristic pink to carmine-red appearance on weathered matrix. The intensely colored crystal aggregates cover large areas of the surface and create a striking contrast with the brown and lighter associated minerals. The crystals are visible as fine crystalline coatings and aggregates, giving the specimen an attractive appearance typical of this mineral. Its vivid coloration makes this an appealing collector's specimen for enthusiasts of rare secondary minerals.
Geology & Origin
Koritnigite is a rare hydrated zinc arsenate mineral that forms in the oxidation zone of arsenic- and zinc-bearing ore deposits. It develops through the alteration of primary ore minerals and usually occurs as fine crystal aggregates or coatings. Jáchymov in the Czech Republic is one of Europe's most important classic mineral localities and is internationally renowned for its exceptional diversity of rare arsenates and uranium minerals. Specimens from this locality are valued for both their mineralogical and historical significance.
